Level 1 Award in Food Safety Awareness in Catering

Course description

This CIEH Level 1 award in food safety is run as a half-day course, and is suitable for a variety of students, including new employees with minimal or no prior food safety knowledge.

Who is the course suitable for?

The syllabus provides an introduction to food safety suitable for those who may not be preparing food every day as part of their work and may not have had any previous formal training. It contributes towards due diligence on the part of the employee and employer.

An introduction to basic food hygiene and safety in the storage and handling of food.

  • Introduction to Food Safety
  • The benefits of good standards and the consequences of poor standards of Food Safety Hazards
  • What causes food borne illness
  • Contamination risks
  • Temperature control
  • Personal hygiene
  • Cleaning and disinfection
  • Assessment and certification:
  • 15 multiple choice question exam paper leading to CIEH certification.

Each successful participant will receive a nationally recognised certificate of competence from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
